These Almond Flour Banana Pancakes are a great way to start your day. They are easy to make, rich in protein and can be made ahead of time to make your mornings even simpler! Plus, the almond flour makes these pancakes super light, moist and gluten free.
Protein is involved in so many functions and systems of the body. From the immune system to muscle maintenance to the health of our hair, nails and skin, it’s a crucial component!
Protein also plays a roll in helping us feel satisfied after meals. It can take longer to digest protein compared to other nutrients, which contributes to increased levels of fullness. This process also helps stabilize our energy levels, instead of having energy surges and crashes soon after.
By incorporating a source of protein into our breakfast, and subsequent meals, we can support our energy levels throughout the day!
This recipe requires 3/4 cup of almond flour, which is gluten free and offers about 17 grams of protein!
Before you make these banana pancakes with almond flour, you may be wondering if there’s a difference between almond flour and almond meal. Almond flour and almond meal are very similar products, both made from grinding almonds. However, there can be slight differences.
This isn’t always the case however, so make sure to double check the texture of the almond flour or almond meal you have before using it in any baking recipes.
In this recipe, we’re using superfine almond flour to make the pancakes as smooth and fluffy as possible!
Just like all perishable foods, almond flour can go bad if stored improperly or if it passes its expiration date. I recommend keeping almond flour in the fridge or freezer to extend the shelf life.
You have come to the right place! I highly recommend using ripe bananas in this pancake recipe. The banana adds a source of fibre and nutrients, while helping to keep the batter together. Since the banana is ripe, it also adds extra sweetness to the almond flour pancakes, making them delicious!
If you still have leftover ripe bananas, you should check out this Chocolate Banana Chia Pudding or these Healthy Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins. They both make delicious breakfast options or snacks that can be taken on the go too!
These healthy Almond Flour Banana Pancakes are incredibly easy to make! All you need is:
Here are the instructions:
If you follow a plant-based diet and want to make these pancakes vegan, there are a few easy substitutions to make. Thankfully, most of the ingredients are already vegan with the exception of the egg and chocolate chips.
Instead of using an egg in this recipe, you can use a flax egg. It works similarly in keeping the batter together and the flax will also add a boost of fibre.
Instead of using regular chocolate chips, you can opt for plant-based, vegan or dairy-free chocolate chips. These can be found in the health food section of most grocery stores.
Are these almond flour banana pancakes paleo too? The answer is yes! They contain fruit, eggs and nuts, which all fit within the Paleo diet. The one consideration would be to avoid using maple syrup and chocolate chips as sweeteners and add-ins.
