Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 egg
  • cup quick oats
  • ¼ cup white onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed
  • 1 tbsp Greek seasoning see below
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill or 1 tsp dried dill
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Homemade Greek seasoning

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp dried basil
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried parsley

Instructions

  • Start by making the Greek seasoning. Mix the garlic powder and all of the herbs together in a small bowl and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, egg, oats, garlic, onion, fresh dill, 1 tbsp of the homemade Greek seasoning, salt and pepper. Stir well.
  • Scoop roughly ¾ cup of the meat mixture into your hands (I like to use plastic cooking gloves) and pat it back and forth until it forms a disk that is roughly ½ inch thick. Use your fingers to round the edges. Set this on a plate lined with parchment paper or tin foil and repeat with the remaining meat until it is all formed into patties.
  • Heat the air fryer to 400℉. Lightly coat the bottom of the air fryer basket with oil or cooking spray. Add the hamburger patties, making sure they are evenly spaced out.
  • Cook the burgers for 4-5 minutes on each side. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the cooked burgers reach the recommended internal temperature of 165℉ or 74℃.
  • See below for alternative cooking instructions.
  • Once the burgers are cooked, spread a generous helping of tzatziki on the burger bun, add the burger and top with lettuce and tomato. Serve with your choice of additional condiments and side dishes and enjoy!

Stovetop

  • Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a deep set pan over medium-high heat. Place the burger patties on the pan for 4-6 minutes (or until golden brown on the cooked side) and flip. Cook again for another 4-6 minutes, or until the burger is fully cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165℉ or 74℃.

Grill

  • Lightly brush either the burgers or the grill grates with vegetable oil and place the patties on the barbeque at medium-high heat, roughly 375-400℉. Grill for about 5 minutes and flip. Grill for another 5 minutes or until the burger is fully cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165℉ or 74℃.

Notes

Substitutions:

  • Ground chicken or beef
    • Instead of using ground turkey for this burger recipe, ground chicken or ground beef would also work.
  • Old fashioned rolled oats
    • These can be used in place of quick oats.
  • Bread crumbs
    • Bread crumbs will act very similarly to quick oats and can be used instead. They add some texture, soak up any extra liquid and make the meat go a little bit further.
  • Store bought seasoning
    • If you don’t want to make your own homemade Greek seasoning and prefer to use a store bought option, this is totally fine!
  • Garlic salt
    • If you only have garlic salt for the homemade seasoning, you can use this. Just slightly reduce the added salt to ¼ teaspoon when making the burgers so they aren’t too salty.

Dietary considerations

  • This recipe is already dairy free and nut free.
  • To make this recipe gluten free, opt for gluten-free quick oats and don’t forget to use a gluten-free burger bun!
